Steve Miller "Fly like an Eagle"
And there's nothing we can do except embrace it, the future that is. So this week I actually went back to the future, back to enjoy the feeling one gets when surrounded by the familiar whether it's family, friends, a place, a time, a memory.
I drove 1155 klms back to Alberta to share a few days with the family I found in my thirties, not blood family but family I chose and who chose us over thirty years ago, the "us" being my mother, my children and I. My adopted Mums had much to deal with in the last year or so, I needed to spend a few days with her before John and I leave for our next series of house sitting assignments ..... these have been a special few days, future memories.
This week I found a cousin I didn't know I had. He's with his partner in BC on a house swap, that's how we connected and managed to meet. Parents sit up and take note, tell your children the story of your life and your parents lives, as much as you remember anyway. If it's colourful, a little or a lot mysterious, if the skeletons don't just rattle they shake rattle and roll like thunder tell the story, we actually don't care because the story is always far more important to tell, than the secrets are to keep.
I know once the can of worms is open ....... all I can say from experience is pick the right time, right place and right person and yes sometimes it may be better to let sleeping dogs lie.
One more day and I get back on my trusty steed, (what am I saying, it's very late) I get back in my car and drive another 1155 klms back to BC. John and I have a date with my new cousin and his partner on Friday, a jazz club yes we even have similar musical taste. Then next week I leave for California where I'm pet sitting one of my favourite furry ones, Miss Stella for two whole weeks before heading across the pond to join John in Spain where we're on assignment looking after Bruno and his parents home for six plus months. Our home? Sitters Angela and David arrive from Thailand three days before John leaves so all will be well in our house sitting world.
That's our future for the foreseeable ....... Good Night All
