Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm the happiest around animals they simply bring me joy. Horses have been in my blood since I can remember everything about them makes me content.
My dear Dad was a "mad" fisherman taking his boat out in all kinds of weather, all night sometimes often catching nothing but a cold. After spending hours with him in the bitter cold at the end of a pier one winters night I asked "Dad what makes you do this?" never wanting to refuse him my company I really hoped asking the question may give him a hint that it wasn't something I particularly relished in spite of being wrapped up in a sleeping bag listening to Radio Luxembourg on my "trannie" (transistor radio)
He replied "Darling Girl one day you will find something that completely absorbs you, something that makes you think of nothing else, something all consuming and gives you that "Not a care in the world" feeling ....."
Wise words and yes I had my Holy Grail from the day I was born, animals. They teach us more than we teach them, love us unconditionally and give back far more than they take. Sadly though this opens them up to abuse from the so called "human" race (see the meaning of Humanity posted below so far removed from many humans) ........
Thank goodness for organisations such as A.R.C.H who work tirelessly against many odds to rescue all equines. Yesterday afternoon they held a fund raiser at the yard located just outside Alhaurin le Grande John and I went joined by our new found friends and fellow house sitters Jay and John. Jay brought her camera and creative eye taking some brilliant shots, they've been traveling through Europe and around the world house and pet sitting since leaving their native New Zealand eight months ago, a brilliant couple we've spent some great times together and now with them "sitting" just down the road in Mijas there's more fun times ahead.
Now I'm going to beg, unashamedly. Please visit the A.R.C.H. website and make a donation, it is the season for giving after all and just think how great it will make you feel. Why not sponsor one of the horses, ponies or donkeys? Give it as a gift especially to the younger members of the family or even the older ones, in fact everyone. Doesn't mean you have to have them stay in the garden or living room, no they stay where they are but you help look after them financially. Every and any amount helps adoptions cost just 20 Euros for the year more if you're feeling generous. A.R.C.H. will send photos, updates and any news about your chosen equine it's the present that just keeps giving, it's the present I'm giving this year!!
