To Blog: noun 1. a Web site containing the writer's or group of writers' own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other Web sites.
verb (used without object) 2. to maintain or add new entries to a blog.
It's the verb definition where I come unstuck you see to blog takes time, if I could only "speak" the text to miraculously appear on screen I'd update EVERY day, but seriously I don't have the time .... my excuse, I'm sticking to it.
So here's the last five months of daily blogs in a snap shot!
We returned home from New York in March had an amazing time, loved the homeowners, their furry ones and the Big Apple, we've been asked back, can't wait. It really is an amazing city other favorites of course being London and Paris but there's something very special about New York it's so walkable and public transport accessible.
Once home had some family health issues to deal with, as it turned out issues which would prevent us from crossing the pond for the summer. Sometimes fate has a way of putting you exactly where you belong, it did just that.
April found us in Victoria, Vancouver Island for a week staying in a lovely home looking after Nessie, not the Loch Ness Monster www.nessie.co.uk, but a lovely senior feline gentleman. Mum and Dad went to Tofino on the East coast of the Island, www.tofino.ca for a well deserved vacation. Good times, we got to see parts of the Island we'd never have seen as normal "tourists" proving once again that house sitting is the best way possible to travel. Found the best, best, best fish and chips we've ever had on Wharf Street in Victoria www.redfish-bluefish.com they were without doubt better than anything we've ever tasted anywhere, including Rick Steins in Padstow, UK. Queues are long, I mean long but the wait is well worth it. Halibut and Chips, yummy tried their take on mushy peas, Edame Mash I'm converted!!
A week later I went solo to take care of a mini farmyard in Snoqualmie Washington, lovely spot in view of the Cascade Mountains. Pet parents went on an Alaskan cruise, they didn't leave the kiddies easily but assured them this stand in Mum I was kept company by two gorgeous Pointers, 4 rescue cats and two Tennessee Walking Horses, Tango and Bolero, weather was amazing and I had the most enjoyable week ..... who'd have thought I'd ever be in Snoqualmie, not me I didn't even know where it was, do now thanks to pet and house sitting ..... and I'd go back there was so much I didn't get to see.
Beginning of May saw our daughter NIcole and partner Richard come to BC for a two week visit. Do they ever know how to get the most out of a vacation, it's all in Nicole's planning, their feet hardly touched the ground! Took in a Fleetwood Mac concert in Vancouver, went whale watching somthing with have to do with all our guests although this particular company wasn't the best next time we'll go back to one of the Vancouver Island companies http://www.aboriginaljourneys.com is always a really good choice. They did the Rockies, Lake Louise www.banfflakelouise.com , Ice Fields Parkway and Jasper. Richard went climbing in Squamish and Whistler they even took the train to Seattle WA all in 14 days!! Mum and Dad provided the transport, Mum the packed meals and cheesecake!
So with our sitters from Oz arriving end of May we had to make our summer house sitting plans www.trustedhousesitters.com always our first website of choice. and decided to build the plan round a road trip South. We'd take John's car as he had a race day planned in Union Washington you know that sort of day when big boys get to drive their hot machines round a race track at whatever speed their nerve allows, staying at the Alderbrook Resort and Spa for a couple of nights.
So just how do you get enough of life's necessities into a shoe box, or more precisely a Porsche's non existant trunk .... idea of mine SPACE BAGS!! You know those storage bags you need to suck out with a vacuum cleaner. Packing and unpacking? No problem ALL hotels have vacuum cleaners don't they?
One small point though, exactly how do you suck air out of face, body, hair and teeth supplies? Just mine I mean a girl has to have creams, moisturize! moisturize! moisturize, isn't that the key to youthful skin!?!? Unfortunately tubes jars and the like aren't suckable so round peg in square hole comes to mind. Fortunately (not so some times though) my husband is OCD enough to spend hours getting it "Just Right" We finally did it yes packed 3 months of life in a shoe box, fast forward a month later we've still not worn half of what we packed and I can't buy anything will have no where to put it .... suppose there is shipping of course!
Race day was brilliant for the boy, wore him out totally. Major case of exhaustion and motion sickness plus a new found admiration, on top of admiration, for F1 drivers. Repeat the performance in September, I'm told I can drive this time.... if I can see over the hood that is, cushion anyone?
So we truly hit the road June 4th, heading down the 101 Coast Road it truly is an amazing drive. First stop Canon Beach stayed there two days, then Ashland Oregon, El Sobrante CA, looking after Charlie and Terri and now in Mill Valley CA looking after two gorgeous kitties. Details of these and other pet/house sitting adventures on this summer journey to come ......... when I have the time:)) photo "blog" at bottom!!
Watch this space. Will try to update soon, who knows someone may actually read this:))
Bye for now
