Knowing our pet sit assignment in Spain would be long term I was determined to get involved with an animal charity as a volunteer. I asked our home owner, Michelle, if she was aware of any horse rescue centres, she put me in touch with A.R.C.H. John and I visited one Sunday at the end of October, the Sunday after they had taken in two badly abused and neglected Welsh ponies. It was the plight of Hope and Valiente, as they had been named, which convinced John to overcome his fear of everything equine, a miracle in itself! We both started our work at A.R.C.H in November, what a joy it's been. At times terribly hard on the heart, the cruelty of some humans is beyond our comprehension.
We are custodians of this world, a world we share with all animals to abuse either is unforgivable. Thank goodness for the Jills and Claires of this world. We're been privileged, inspired and humbled by the their dedication and tireless work of all their volunteers. We have a few months left here but will leave one day enriched by our involvement, the experience, the wonderful equines and amazing human kindness.

Hope and Valiente three months on. The pictures tell the story bodies and minds being healed with expert veterinary care, stable management, huge amounts of love, patience and care from dedicated volunteers supported by the financial generosity through donations made by friends and supporters of A.R.C.H. ..... Thank you one and all!!
