Strolling through the timbered town of Lavenham in the sunshine today the beauty that is England and in many way the uniqueness filled my thoughts. Yes France and many other European countries have beautiful medieval towns but there's something very special about the quintessential English village ..... cream teas not withstanding!!
Love Lavenham! One of the finest and more beautiful medieval villages in England. This vibrant Suffolk village is the perfect destination for a day, a week or indeed forever.
Lavenham is an ideal place to visit and indulge yourself - It has a fantastic calendar of events and festivals, award winning places to eat, great galleries and shops to browse and plenty to do and explore nearby.
Perhaps the most famous of the wool towns, Lavenham once enjoyed such a high standing that in the reign of Henry VIII it was ranked as the fourteenth wealthiest town in England.
The appearance of the town has changed little over the years: half-timbered crooked houses lean impossibly over the narrow streets, while the magnificent Swan Hotel makes a striking feature on our beautiful High Street. The picturesque Market Place is home to the famous National Trust Lavenham Guildhall, Little Hall, as well as a host of shops, restaurants and our excellent Tourist Information Centre.
Lavenham has been described as the "finest medieval town in England" and has more than 300 buildings listed as being of architectural and historical interest. Despite being steeped in history, the town is bang up to date with what it has to offer the modern day visitor. An abundance of art galleries, independent lifestyle shops and boutiques, fine dining restaurants, pubs and cafes. A real gem in the South & Heart of Suffolk, it is the perfect base to explore Suffolk's countryside and coast with its wealth of contemporary and boutique hotels, holiday lets and B&B's.
A warm Suffolk welcome awaits!
