The Fresh Dixie Project have made a splash on the UK music scene with their unique 'crossover swing'. Their energetic sound fuses intense grooves and raucous sax lines with infectious melodies and powerful riffs. Played hard, fast and laced with virtuosity, their songs are just as electrifying for the feet as they are for the ears.
Chris White plays some of the famous saxophone solos from his time with Dire Straits and recounts stories from his life as a musician.
The Apollo Swing Band The band are back again at Hadcaf following their very popular and successful concert last year in St. Lawrence’s. The venue this year is the John O’Gaunt School – probably more flexible for their needs but not providing the overhead view for photography which is so valuable at the church, and lacking its high ceiling and favourable acoustics.
After we spent a lovely 10 days in Hay on Wye at Thelma's we headed to my cousin's in Hungerford Wiltshire to spend the weekend which just happened to coincide with the town's Arts Fest. Held every year and running for almost two weeks it attracts some excellent talent, this year was no different my favourite .... The Fresh Dixie Project four young and very talented musicians and all round great guys from Cambridge Uni their music is a mix of Swing and Jazz with an edge without it becoming punky or forced. It's got a timeless class, yet still feels fresh and I promise you wont sit still ... a cross between Simply Red, Jamie Cullum and Jamiroquai they were brilliant. Do yourself and your ears a treat, visit their website and listen to a tune or two!!
Had a great weekend with Norman and Sue Did lots, drank lots, ate lots and no #house sitting! By the way Hungerford has a reputation because of a tragic incident which happened a few years ago but it's a lovely, unique town and well worth a visit.
Our next stop after Hungerford? Right here in Barnes SW London for our month in the Big City, actually small village because that's the atmosphere Barnes like many other (prosperous) suburbs maintains, there's even a village green and a very famous recording studio Olympic Studios now turned very plush "Mine's a Gin and Tonic" Movie Theater .... very nice, very suburbia!

"A new café and restaurant serving a predominantly seasonal British menu with European influences, and open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's part of the new Olympic Cinema complex, which has transformed the historic Olympic Studios in Barnes (legendary recording studios for the likes of the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix) into a brand-new cinema and private members' club .... now open"
